Eimeria (Coccidiose)
Eimeria spp colonize and live in the birds’ intestinal tract. Birds infected with coccidia can appear asymptomatic but in young birds, and in the case of immunosuppression, often due to disease caused by another pathogen, infection can manifest with clinical disease. The most common symptom is bloody diarrhea, which in turn can lead to increased mortality.
AeroCollect® detects whether Eimeria is present in the flock. If coccidia are confirmed, the sample can be analyzed further to differentiate between the most common Eimeria species. Eimeria can also be used as a marker for the presence of other pathogens. Increasing Eimeria concentration will be seen if the birds are fighting other diseases.
