Actinobacillus Pleuropneumoniae (APP)
Actinobacillus Pleuropneumoniae, also known just as pleuropneumonia, is a contagious pneumonia that can occur in pigs of all ages.
15 serotypes exist. In the acute phase the disease causes fever, coughing and depression. Within few hours the disease can develop into a live threatening condition with cyanosis and dyspnea.
During the chronic phase animals are usually only infected if they already are immunosuppressed.
The disease increases mortality and slows growth rate in the pigs, thereby increasing the rate of carcass condemnation at the slaughterhouse. Early detection of the disease as well as prophylactic surveillance are key elements in preventing and limiting APP.
With AeroCollect® you can regularly monitor your flock for APP, giving you an easy tool to monitor and to act fast should the disease emerge in the flock.
