Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)

MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) are bacteria that are resistant towards regular penicillin.

Several types of MRSA exist, most are common in humans, but MRSA CC398 is often detectable in animals, especially in pigs.

MRSA is found on skin and snout, and pigs are often unaffected by its presence. But the bacteria can spread to humans through the air where they have the potential to produce abscesses and impetigo.

Regular monitoring with AeroCollect® is an advantage when testing and surveilling for MRSA. The method is non-invasive and allows for flock diagnostics in a swift manner. The test for MRSA is accredited and validated in the AeroCollect® lab
