Avian Metapneumovirus (aMPV)
Avian nephritis virus (ANV) is an infectious disease in poultry, caused by astrovirus. It affects kidney function and reduces productivity. It mainly impacts young birds, leading to symptoms like diarrhea and dehydration. Subclinical disease is also common.
E.Coli
E.coli is a commensal pathogen that lives in the gut of poultry and other animals. Certain E. coli strains have the ability to become pathogenic, such as APEC (Avian Pathogenic E. coli), leading to Colibacillosis.
Co-infection with other pathogens, as well as stress, make birds more susceptible to infection with E. coli. In the event of colibacillosis, birds can show a range of symptoms related to gastrointestinal as well as respiratory symptoms. In layers a drop in egg production can be observed.
Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV)
Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) is highly contagious, and morbidity can reach 100% in the poultry flock. In addition to respiratory clinical signs, a drop in egg production can be seen, and eggs can appear misshapen.
Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV)
Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV), also known as Gumboro, affects the immune system of young chickens, typically age 3-6 weeks. The virus is highly contagious and immunosuppressive, leading to decreased production. Birds show ruffled feathers and depression.
Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT)
Infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) is a contagious disease affecting chickens and pheasants, caused by the Gallid herpesvirus I. Acute symptoms are severe breathing difficulty, coughing, and abnormal respiratory sounds. Alternatively, it may present in a subacute form, with milder signs including nasal and eye discharge, inflammation of the trachea (tracheitis), conjunctivitis, and mild respiratory noises (rales).
Mycoplasma Gallisepticum
Several Mycoplasma subspecies exist and M. gallisepticum (MG) and M. synoviae (MS) are known to cause disease in poultry. Birds infected with MG can express respiratory symptoms and layers a drop in eggs laid. MS infection expresses itself as unspecific respiratory symptoms and can be subclinical. Another sign of infection with MS can be swollen joints due to synovitis.
