Aleutian Mink Disease Virus (AMDV)

Aleutian mink disease virus (AMDV), also called plasmacytosis, is a parvovirus affecting mink and ferrets.

The disease is immune mediated in adult mink, and expresses itself, among many things, with ataxia, paresis of hind part, decreased reproduction and abortion. Various organs are affected by the disease, and mortality can be high.

The virus causes plasma cells to proliferate in excess which infiltrate spleen, liver, lymph nodes and kidneys, resulting in inflammation of these organs.

Plasmacytosis can have large economic consequences on the production, and surveillance of the disease is essential. With AeroCollect® you can monitor mink for the virus without stressful handling. The sampling procedure is swift and produces fast and reliable results.
