Chicken Anemia Virus (CAV)
Chicken Anemia Virus (CAV), also known as Blue Wing Disease (not to be confused with gangrenous dermatitis), damages blood and immune cells, leading to anemia and immunosuppression in chickens. The disease occurs in young chicks without MDA (maternal antibodies). The disease is often represented in co-infection with reovirus.
Symptoms include weight loss, anemia, and depression. Mortality can be increased. Infected chickens may display blue wings due to decreased blood clotting. Chicks can often recover, but secondary infections can worsen the disease.
AeroCollect® can be used to survey for CAV by efficiently capturing the virus from the air, ensuring early detection and management of the disease.
