Histomonas meleagridis

Histomonas meleagridis is a protozoa that infects poultry. Infection can be subclinical, and chickens are not as susceptible as turkeys. In turkey flocks, mortality can be high due to Histomoniasis, and the protozoa can give rise to the disease Blackhead Disease, where turkeys sometimes display blue or black color changes of the head, hence the name.

Monitoring and early detection of Histomonas is essential for taking the necessary steps to minimize the presence of the protozoa in the poultry flock. AeroCollect® provides this capability by allowing for continuous and accurate monitoring of the flock’s health.
