Marek’s disease herpesvirus (MDV)

Marek’s disease herpesvirus (MDV), commonly referred to as Marek’s, is a highly contagious form of herpesvirus that significantly impacts poultry health. The disease presents a range of symptoms, including lameness, paralysis, crooked neck, paleness, and drooping wings, which can severely affect the well-being and productivity of affected birds.

Marek’s disease is classified into three serotypes. Serotype 1 is pathogenic and poses a significant threat to poultry, while serotypes 2 and 3 are considered apathogenic. Notably, serotype 3 is widely used in vaccines, particularly the HVT (Herpesvirus of Turkeys) vaccine, which helps protect flocks against the pathogenic effects of serotype 1.

To safeguard your poultry operation, early detection of Marek’s disease is crucial. AeroCollect® serves as an effective tool for monitoring and identifying the presence of Marek’s in your flock. By capturing airborne pathogens, AeroCollect® facilitates quick and accurate surveillance, enabling producers to implement timely interventions.
